Town of Abita Springs Trailhead & Park

Located on the Abita River, the Trailhead & Park has several sheltered picnic tables, historic pavilion, splash pad, Town Museum and a children's playground. The pavilion was designed by Tomas K. Sully for the New Orleans Cotton Centennial Exposition of 1884 and later moved to Abita Springs and reconstructed over the then famous flowing spring.

After Hurricane Katrina, the pavilion and historic Museum building were relocated to the entrance of the park. This began our entire Park improvement project. We are proud of our award-winning Trailhead & Park and continually enhance and improve it. It has truly become a destination spot for residents and visitors alike.

Park Location – 22049 Main Street Abita Springs, LA 70420
Park Hours – Open Dusk till Dark.

The Tammany Trace

Tammany Trace is a 31 mile bike path that stretches from Covington to Slidell. Our Trailhead, which sits right on the Trace, is the perfect spot to take a break from biking, running, roller blading or just a leisurely walk. The Trace was once a part of the Illinois Central railroad and goes straight through the center of town. It is a beautiful way to view Abita Springs.

Splash Pad

Located near the Museum, this water feature has quickly become the favorite way for local kids to cool off on hot summer days. Dozens of water jets spray Abita water high in the air at varying heights and intervals for the children (and some grown-ups too!) to play under. Shade areas and benches surround the popular play spot.

Open during regular park hours: dawn till dusk.
