While the town remains small, despite leading the parish in growth in recent decades, the convergence of traffic through the efficient rotary offers great traffic counts to current and prospective retailers, as do local schools, churches, airport and tourist attractions that bring additional potential customers to town daily.
 
The current administration is supportive to future business expansion that recognize the opportunities offered by locating here as evidenced by the recently enacted cultural "tax free” district , emerging healthcare presence in Abita (highlighted by a new dialysis center) and numerous expansions of Abita Lumber. Abita hopes to expand its entertainment, dining, lodging and tourists options as an entertainment destination in the future, modeled after its past as a tourist destination.
